Asia Cup Schedule out as ACC & PCB solve fixture issues

Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is soon to announce verdict on Asia Cup 2023 schedule after meeting with PCB and BCCI officials

With the July 14 deadline passed for the announcement of Asia Cup 2023 schedule, there is finally good news. After approval from Asian Cricket Council (ACC), Pakistan Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has unveiled the Asia Cup 2023 schedule. The continental Cup will kick start on August 30 with Pakistan playing Nepal in Multan. The blockbuster India vs Pakistan clash will take place on September 2 in Kandy.

Earlier, PCB was unhappy with the tentative schedule as they will only host one home game against Nepal among four Asia Cup matches. Sri Lanka will host 9 matches.

Also, PCB wants the exact revenue share from the Lankan leg of the Continental Cup which the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) got from UAE for hosting the Asia Cup last year. ACC will be having a two-day meeting on Sunday and Monday with BCCI and PCB in Dubai to finalize the schedule. Pakistan had been allotted to host four matches, and Sri Lanka are set to nine matches including two India vs Pakistan games. However, PCB wants a bigger revenue share during IND vs PAK game.

“It has already been finalised that Pakistan will only host Asia Cup matches as a host nation while the rest of the event will be held in Sri Lanka. The important thing is how much Pakistan gets as revenue to host remaining matches in Sri Lanka,” a PCB source told The News, Pakistan.

Why is Asia Cup Schedule delayed?

The delay in Asia Cup Schedule is because PCB wants the ACC to rework. PCB wants more home matches during Continental Cup as it feels like rain would play spoilsport in Sri Lanka during the month of September. Also, PCB wants a higher revenue share from the Sri Lankan leg of games. PCB feels if UAE would have been a better co-host of the Continental Cup than Sri Lanka, they would have got more money.

“In Sri Lanka, it is hard to generate an extra amount. We have to reach some understanding with the ACC to ensure that we would get the revenues we are looking at. That is to generate the same revenues that India generated from hosting the Asia Cup last year in Dubai,” the source explained.

It remains to be seen if ACC adheres to the following pointers by PCB. While Pakistan could get more matches, ACC are worried about the fatigue of players and have allotted more games in Sri Lanka as they want lesser travel time.
