Another setback for PV Sindhu, ousted in first round of Indonesia Open by Wen Chi Hsu

PV Sindhu has had mixed results this year, and had managed to reach the finals of the Malaysia Masters couple of weeks back.

After a pre-quarters finish in the Singapore Open, star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu lost in the first round of the Indonesia Open on Wednesday. The WR-12 Indian lost to WR-26 Wen Chi Hsu in three games 15-21, 21-15, 14-21, to bow out of the tournament. This comes as a rude blow to her Paris 2024 preparations, where she would be looking to win her third medal at the Olympics.

PV Sindhu vs Hsu @Indonesia Open

It all started on a bright note for the Chinese Taipei girl, who raced to a 10-2 lead in the first game itself. Sindhu tried to make a decent recovery at 18-15, but that wasn’t enough. Come the second game, she showed a marked improvement and was too good for Hsu. The game was level at 11-11 at one stage but a flurry of points saw Sindhu take the match to last game.

But in the end the Taipei player prevailed. Despite the scores locked at 12-12, the Indian could not close the match.

HS Prannoy Beaten Too

Paris 2024-bound HS Prannoy too had an ordinary first round outing at the Indonesia Open as well. He lost to compatriot Priyanshu Rajawat in straight games 17-21, 12-21. The World No. 10 has been ousted in the first round, six times already this year.
