Ireland to Netherlands: England performance vs European countries in T20 World Cup

Amongst the European countries in T20 World Cup, England have been defeated twice by Netherlands while Ireland have trumped once against the Three Lions.

Defending champions, England opening match against Scotland got abandoned due to the rain on June 4 (Tuesday). As a result, England failed to break their record of not winning against a European country in T20 World Cup. They’ve faced some challenges in previous encounters. For instance, they lost to the Netherlands in 2009 and 2014, and also had rain-affected clashes against Ireland in 2010.

England winless against European countries

As stated above, team England is yet to win a single game against European countries in T20 World Cup including Netherlands, Ireland and Scotland. Against Ireland, the Three Lions suffered their first in the last completed edition of the T20 World Cup. Earlier in 2010, the England vs Ireland T20 WC match was abandoned due to the rain.

On the other hand, the Dutch side has defeated England twice in the marquee events. Jos Buttler and Co. had the chance of breaking the streak against Scotland on June 4 (Tuesday). However, the rain foiled their plans as they match ended with no result.

Apart from Scotland, there are no other European countries in England’s Group B. As a result, the 100%-win record of European countries against England in T20 World Cup will be kept intact atleast till the next marquee event.
