T20 World Cup: Fazalhaq Farooqi credits IPL after heroics vs Uganda

After his heroics in Afghanistan's first T20 World Cup match, Fazalhaq Farooqi credited IPL and other franchise-based cricket leagues.

Afghanistan pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi had a decent outing in his first T20 World Cup 2024 match as he rattled Uganda with a sensational five-wicket haul on Tuesday. Farooqi, who derailed Uganda’s top-order with two breakthroughs in his first over, finished his spell with clinical figures of five for nine in four overs.

After his heroics in Afghanistan’s first T20 World Cup match, Fazalhaq Farooqi credited IPL and other franchise-based cricket leagues for his recently success in the T20 World Cup.

To note, Farooqi represents Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL. “Definitely, the franchise cricket has helped me. I have been playing in different franchise leagues for the last three years and it has helped me to keep improving every day. You get to learn a lot when you play alongside the best players in the world,” he said.

 For his heroics in against Namibia in T20 World Cup, Farooqi also received the player of the match award. In the post-match presentation, Farooqi reckoned that he got some swing early on with the new ball, contributing to his stellar success in the game. “Thanks to the almighty. I missed the hat-trick a few times. That’s not something in my control but will try to pick up a hat-trick if I get a chance in the future,” Farooqi added.
