Trevor Bayliss signs one-year contract extension with Sydney Thunder despite dismal BBL outing last season

With a competitive 10-game home-and-away schedule this upcoming season, Bayliss will be under pressure to produce better results right away.

After agreeing to a one-year contract extension to coach the Sydney Thunder in KFC BBL 14, Trevor Bayliss will have an opportunity to make amends this summer. The Thunder have chosen to continue with their highly esteemed head coach despite a disappointing BBL 13 season, where the Western Sydney team finished last with only one victory.

Sydney keep faith on Trevor Bayliss despite dismal outing last season

With a competitive 10-game home-and-away schedule this upcoming season, Bayliss will be under pressure to produce better results right away. If not, Cricket NSW has no problem firing a coach in the middle of the season, as it did with former state men’s coach Phil Jaques in November 2022.

Ambition is to win tournament: Trevor Bayliss

I’ve been here three years and there is probably a little bit of unfinished business,” Bayliss, a 2019 ODI World Cup with England said.

We’ve been working towards something over the last few years. With that and some of the recruitment we’ve done this year, we should be in a good position to win a number of games. Our ambition should be to win the tournament,” Bayliss added.

In a deal that also included the exchange of second round draft picks, the Thunder acquired South Australian quick Wes Agar from Adelaide Strikers for a two-year contract, bolstering their pool of pace bowlers for the upcoming BBL 14.

In the upcoming weeks, the team is anticipated to reveal more player signings. Under the league’s new direct signing system, foreign players may also be signed before the draft to multi-year contracts.
