USA’s Aaron Jones’ innings was special in a lot of ways. Not only his 40-ball 94 helped the hosts post a thumping win over neighbors Canada in the opening match of the T20 World cup 2024, but also set the tone for the rest of the tournament. At one stage, USA were struggling at 81/2 after 10 overs, but the next 7.3 overs saw them wreak havoc on the Canadian bowlers, as Jones stitched a 131-run partnership with Andries Gous (65).
Aaron Jones, the Star in USA vs CAN
But, end of the day, it was Jones who emerged as the lone star. In his blinding innings, he smashed 10 sixes and four fours. That is the second most by any batsman in a T20 World Cup match. The first on the list is Chris Gayle, who has 11 against his name, in a match vs England in 2016.

A Match to Remember — USA vs CAN
By all means, the USA vs CAN match will be remembered for a long time. After opting to bowl first, Canada scored 194 in their 20 overs. Navneet Dhaliwal was the star of the innings as he scored 61 from 44, while Nicholas Kirton got 51 from 31. But after starting slowly, USA mesmerized with the Aaron Jones show.
In fact, the batter himself couldn’t believe what he had done. “I don’t think it’s easy to put into words,” Jones said after the match. “I know once I hit it in the middle it will go for sure.”
