T20 World Cup: Is ICC favoring India? Questions raised as multiple teams face logistical issues

The Sri Lankan team plays its first T20 World Cup match vs South Africa in New York, and then go back to Florida again for match vs Bangladesh.

The T20 World Cup might have just started, but the tournament is sitting on the cusp of a controversy already. Before the inaugural match of the tournament, a report has surfaced in Newswire.ik, that Sri Lanka, Ireland and South Africa have faced travelling issues from Florida to New York, for their respective matches. This has left the teams red-faced, and have faulted ICC for questionable logistics.

T20 World Cup

Sri Lanka and Ireland played a warm-up match in Florida on Friday, under extreme sun, and after the encounter, both teams had to wait over seven hours, without any updates by the ICC, for their charter flights. The report further reveals that the teams were to reach New York by 8 PM on Friday, but only ended up reaching their destination on 5 AM the next day.

Now, one of the repercussions was, that Team Sri Lanka had to cancel their practice session on Saturday, which could have been crucial for their preparations for their opening match vs South Africa on June 3.

No Comfort Like Team India

Strangely enough, that isn’t the only issue with the Lankan team. They have been put up in a hotel that is 1.5 hours away from the practice ground, which will further impact their chances. This is in stark contrast to the facilities Team India is getting; they are staying minutes away from their training ground and the Nassau County International Stadium, where they play their three matches in the T20 World Cup.

In fact, there were reports suggesting that, India had asked the ICC for rescheduling their warm up match against Bangladesh, from Florida to New York, as they did not want to spend a lot of time travelling to-and-fro, after a long flight from back home. And eventually the wish was granted.

Sri Lanka, Ireland File Formal Complaint

As is the way to go forward, the report suggests that Sri Lanka, Ireland and South Africa have filed complaints to the ICC, regarding the same. The tension does not end there for the Islanders as they will have to leave for Dallas once again, immediately after their first match, as they play Bangladesh on June 8.
