Fired up by critics? Virat Kohli’s IPL masterclass a warning shot ahead of T20 World Cup 2024

Highest run-getter at the ODI World Cup 2023, Orange Cap winner at IPL 2024. Will Virat Kohli rule the roost at the mega T20 World Cup 2024 again?

Virat Kohli’s blistering run in IPL 2024 was a sight for sore eyes, not just for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans, but for all of cricketing India. After a period marked by questions about his T20 form, Kohli roared back with a vengeance, silencing critics and emerging as the tournament’s leading run-scorer. This resurgence, according to (former) teammate Dinesh Karthik, stems from Kohli’s deep-seated desire to prove his doubters wrong.

From doubters to domination for Virat Kohli

While Kohli began the season well, whispers emerged regarding his strike rate. Certain pundits questioned his ability to adapt to the ever-evolving T20 format. However, as Karthik suggests, these criticisms acted as a catalyst for Kohli. He transformed into a run-scoring machine, amassing a formidable 741 runs in just 15 matches. This tally not only made him the Orange Cap winner, but also saw him hammer runs at a rate of 154.70, his career-best in 17 years!

A ‘molten lava’ in Kohli

Dinesh Karthik described Kohli as a “molten lava coming out,” an intimidating presence that inspires confidence within his team and strikes fear in the hearts of opponents. While speaking with Cricbuzz, DK said, “He is someone inadvertently who wants to hold on to certain things to do well wants loves proving people wrong. Even though he might not come out and say it it it really fuels his passion and he’s like a molten lava coming out he’s fiery and you don’t want to be anywhere close to it because you’re going to get burnt.”

A boon for India at T20 WC 2024

Kohli’s return to form is a massive shot in the arm for India’s T20 World Cup campaign. A player in such red-hot form, brimming with confidence and boasting an exceptional record in World Cups, adds a significant edge to India. Kohli’s presence not only strengthens the batting lineup but also provides much-needed stability and experience in the middle order.
