Former German national team and Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick has been appointed as head coach of Barcelona on a two-year contract. Flick takes on the challenge of revitalizing the Catalan giants after a disappointing season under Xavi Hernandez, who was dismissed last Friday following a trophyless campaign.
‘It’s our moment. Flick is here.’ the team wrote on it’s social media handle.
It would be Flick’s first coaching position since Germany sacked him in September of last year. He had previously spent two seasons at Bayern Munich, winning the Champions League and back-to-back Bundesliga crowns.

Hansi Flick looks to replicate his success with Barcelona
In a statement, the club said it had “chosen a man well known for his teams’ high pressing, intense and daring style of play, which has brought him great success at club level and international level, winning pretty much all there is to win in the world of football”.
Barcelona emphasised the 59-year-old German’s success at Bayern during the 2019-20 season, when he won six trophies: the Bundesliga, the German Cup, the Champions League, the German Super Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Club World Cup.
Xavi was fired last week after a trophy-less season in which Barcelona ended 10 points behind champion Real Madrid, lost the Spanish Super Cup final to its archrival, and was eliminated from the Champions League by Paris St Germain in the last eight.
