Punjab Kings (PBKS) had another disappointing run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, ending the season in ninth position on the points table. In the next auction, which will be the Mega Auction in 2025, PBKS should consider building a team from scratch. Shikhar Dhawan, who is paid 8.25 crore per season, played only five matches this season. In the upcoming auction, Punjab could release Dhawan and prioritize retaining the players listed below.

Shashank Singh
Shashank Singh turned out to be the best pick for Punjab Kings in the IPL 2024 auction. The bid provided a comedic highlight when Punjab Kings mistakenly acquired him, thinking he was another player named Shashank. However, this mix-up turned out to be a stroke of luck for the team, as Singh emerged as their standout performer for the season. Scoring a total of 352 runs at an impressive average of 50.29, Singh’s contributions significantly bolstered Punjab Kings’ campaign, proving that sometimes, unexpected twists lead to remarkable outcomes.
Sam Curran
PBKS suffered a huge blow in the first phase of the tournament when their captain, Shikhar Dhawan, missed out on the playing XI due to injury. Sam Curran took over the role of captain. Although the team did not perform well, his performance was excellent in the tournament. He picked up 16 wickets in 13 matches.
Harshal Patel
Harshal Patel was the only positive for PBKS in the tournament. Despite his team failing to make it to the playoffs, Patel clinched the ‘Purple Cap’ of IPL 2024. He was bought by PBKS for Rs 11.75 crore.
