The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are basking in the glory of not one, but two momentous occasions. Just a day after securing their third IPL title with a thumping win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad, May 27th marked the 12th anniversary of their maiden IPL triumph in 2012.
Decade ago: KKR snatched maiden Trophy
Back in 2012, a young and energetic KKR squad, led by Gautam Gambhir, etched their name in IPL history for the first time.
They faced off against the then-defending champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Bisla stellar knock secures KKR first IPL glory
Chasing a target of 191 set by CSK, KKR’s batting hero was Manvinder Bisla. His scintillating knock of 89 runs played a pivotal role in guiding the team to victory. Bisla’s brilliant performance earned him the Player of the Match title.

Look Back at Memorable IPL 2012 Final
CSK captain MS Dhoni opted to bat first after winning the toss, and their openers Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay gave them a solid start with an 87-run partnership.
However, KKR bowlers chipped away at the CSK batting line-up, with contributions from Rajat Bhatia, Jacques Kallis, and Shakib Al Hasan.
Despite a fighting 73 from Suresh Raina, CSK could only manage 190 runs on the board.
KKR fights back and clinches Title
KKR’s chase started off shaky with the early dismissal of their captain, Gautam Gambhir. However, Manvinder Bisla and Jacques Kallis steadied the ship with a crucial 136-run partnership. While Bisla fell short of a century, he laid the foundation for the chase.
With nerves running high in the final over, needing just 9 runs for victory, Manoj Tiwary calmly smashed two boundaries to seal the deal for KKR.
Weekend of double celebration for KKR Fans
This past weekend was truly a cause for double celebration for KKR fans. The team not only relived the historic win of 2012 but also witnessed their dominant performance in the 2024 final.
With three IPL titles under their belt, KKR continues to be a force to be reckoned with in the tournament.
