West Indies complete 3-0 rout of South Africa, issue solid warning for T20 World Cup

WI vs SA: West Indies had won the first T20I against South Africa by 28 runs, while they won the second by 16 runs.

Even though some of the key players were missing from both the sides, South Africa and West Indies managed to produce top-notch cricket in the three-match T20I series, that the hosts won 3-0. Playing in the last match on Sunday, the West Indies beat the Proteas by eight wickets, to take the series, and go into the T20 World Cup with confidence galore.

WI vs SA, As it Happened

After being set a target of 164, stand-in West Indies skipper Brandon King (44 from 28) and Johnson Charles (69 from 26) played attacking cricket right from the start. The duo strung a partnership of 92 in only 6.4 overs, to seal the win for the team. Later, Kyle Myers also chipped in with 36 from 23 deliveries in a comfortable chase, one-sided chase.

Earlier in the day, opposition skipper Rassie van der Dussen’s 51 from 31 balls had managed to take South Africa to a decent total, but that wasn’t enough on the day. In fact, they went through a mini-collapse in the first innings, where they were reduced to 50/4 in 8.1 overs. It was then that van der Dussen combined well with Wiaan Mulder to add another 77 to the score.

Like their batting, West Indies’ bowling fired too. Gudakesh Motie returned with figures of 2/21, while Obed McCoy bagged 3/39. Shamar Joseph was great on the day too, getting 2/26 in the match.

West Indies Look Solid for T20 World Cup

In what could be called an ideal preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup at home, the West Indies has shown that they are serious title contenders. They are one of the most successful sides in the format and have already won the trophy twice, in 2012 and 2016. What is even more threatening for rest of the teams is, they did not have the likes of regular skipper Rovman Powell and Andre Russell in the team.
