Defending champions England has appointed Manchester City’s psychologist, David Young, for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, starting June 1. Young, the head of psychology at Manchester City, recently celebrated a fourth consecutive Premier League title with the club. He previously served England’s cricket team from 2016 to 2020, playing a crucial role in their 2019 ODI World Cup triumph.

England’s white-ball head coach, Matthew Mott, disclosed that Young was hired as a consultant for this major event to bolster the team’s T20 World Cup title defence. Young joined the squad ahead of the current T20I series against Pakistan and will accompany the team to the Caribbean for the early stages of the World Cup.

Captain Jos Buttler and fast bowler Mark Wood have praised Young for his support during their successful 2019 World Cup campaign. Despite this, England couldn’t defend their title in the 2023 World Cup, exiting in the group stage.
To avoid a repeat of this disappointment, Young has been brought back to provide psychological support. His expertise is expected to be instrumental in helping the team navigate the pressures of the tournament and aim for another title.
