Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) playoff exit in IPL 2024 has reignited discussions about Virat Kohli’s elusive dream of winning an IPL trophy. Despite another strong season with the bat, RCB’s 4-wicket defeat to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Eliminator marked a disappointing end to their campaign. This has extended Kohli’s wait and his IPL title drought to 17 years.
Virat Kohli deserves an IPL trophy!
Following the match, former English cricketer Kevin Pietersen stirred the pot by suggesting Kohli consider leaving RCB. Pietersen believes Kohli’s contribution and dedication deserve to be rewarded with an IPL trophy, something that RCB hasn’t been able to deliver despite Kohli’s long association with the franchise since 2008.
Talking to Star Sports, Pietersen said, “I have said it before and I will say it again — the greats of the game in other sports, have left teams to go and seek glory somewhere else. When he has tried and tried so hard — won the Orange Cap yet again and done so much yet again and the franchise fails again I understand for the brand of the team and the commercial value he brings to the team… But Virat Kohli deserves a trophy. He deserves to play in a team that could help him to get that trophy.”

Where should Virat Kohli go if he leaves RCB?
Pietersen even proposed a specific destination for Kohli – Delhi Capitals (DC). This suggestion holds weight for a couple of reasons. Firstly, Delhi is Kohli’s hometown, which could offer a familiar and comfortable environment. This could be particularly appealing considering Kohli’s young family. Secondly, Pietersen pointed out that DC are just as hungry for an IPL title as RCB.
“I actually think it should be Delhi. Delhi is the place where Virat needs to go. Virat can go away, and stay at home most of the time, I know he has a home in Delhi. He has a young family. He can spend more time there. He is a Delhi boy. Why can’t he go back? Delhi are as desperate as Bengaluru,” he further mentioned.
While it seems highly unlikely that the modern-day master decides to move on from his beloved RCB, the prospect is exciting to imagine for the non-RCB fans, of course!
