Pakistan’s new Test coach reveals blue print for WTC, wants to avoid burnout

Pakistan bowling coach Jason Gillespie elaborated on the need to efficiently manage the workload of players in order to avoid burnout

Former Australian pacer Jason Gillespie arrived in Pakistan to start his role as the head coach for the Men in Green and is ready to swing into action soon. Gillespie joins Gary Kirsten as a part of the latest overhaul made by the PCB. On his arrival to Pakistan, the former pacer detailed on his plans for the side and what would be his immediate focus.

Pakistan’s Test coach sets sight on domestic cricket to scout talent

In an exclusive interview to GeoSuper, Gillespie elaborated on the need to efficiently manage the workload of multi-format players in order to avoid burnout. He revealed that he would be observing domestic cricket matches as well to scout for talent. Gillespie added that a fitness camp was on the cards for all the Test players ahead of their series against Bangladesh.

I’ll be spending a bit of time in Pakistan and observing players in a domestic environment,” he said when asked if he will be in Pakistan quite often as he has the additional job of the selector.

“I’m looking forward to getting over to Pakistan. We’re hoping to have a camp coming up that will incorporate some fitness work, and then some build into our skills, which leads into the two tests against Bangladesh.

Avoiding burnout

We’ll also make sure that we’re looking after all our players, particularly our multi-format players, we need to be really careful that we don’t burn them out because we want them playing at their very best for Pakistan each & every time they step out onto the park. If that means that players from time to time are going to be rested then so we need to do that,” he said.
