It is now time for the Copa America 2024. Defending champions Argentina are yet again out on the prowl to clinch the title again. World Cup winner, Lionel Messi will lead his side yet again. But the biggest news, ace attacker Paulo Dybala has failed to make it to the Provisional List.
The Albiceleste have gone on to announce their 29-member squad, from which 3 will be dropped for the 26-member Copa America squad. Argentina is slated to play Ecuador and Guatemala as warmups before the start of the tournament. Messi and Co begin their Copa America journey on 21st June against Canada.
Shocking! No Paulo Dybala
Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has decided to drop Roma star Paulo Dybala from his 29-member Provisional squad. The ace attacker failing to make the provisional squad means he won’t be able to make it to the mega tournament. On the other hand, it would be their skipper Lionel Messi who would be leading the charge for La Seleccion.
After winning the FIFA 2022 World Cup, there were hints of Messi hanging his boots from International football. However, the Inter Miami star continues to captain his side and will keen to defend the title yet again.
Injuries for Messi and Dybala
While Lionel Messi had his injury concerns, Dybala too was no less. The Roma attacker raked up 16 goals and 10 assists this season. But he picked up a muscle injury and this has been unable to make it to the squad. On the other hand, Messi too has been troubled by injuries.
Lionel Messi went on to miss 6 games for Inter Miami so far with his latest absence coming against Orlando City on 15th May. But it can be expected that Messi would recover and be fit by the time, the tournament starts in exactly a month from now.
