Star Sports vs Rohit Sharma takes new turn, IPL broadcaster denies privacy breach claims

Star Sports has issued a statement a day after former Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma hit out at the broadcasters over respecting players' privacy

A day after India skipper Rohit Sharma pulled up Star Sports for not respecting the privacy of players, the broadcaster has denied the allegations and has issued a clarification.

Upset with Star Sports airing a video of a conversation (without audio) between Dhawal Kulkarni and himself, the Hitman penned a stern message on social media platform X, urging for ‘better sense to prevail’. Now, the broadcaster has responded with a statement.

Star Sports responds to Rohit Sharma’s warning

The clip taken during the training session on May 16 at Wankhede stadium, for which Star Sports had authorised access, momentarily showed the senior player in conversation with his friends on the sidelines. No audio from this conversation was either recorded or broadcasted,” Star Sports said in a statement.

The clip, which only showed the senior player requesting the audio of his conversation to not be recorded, got featured on Star Sports’ live coverage of pre-match preparations and lacked editorial relevance beyond this,” the statement added.

What Rohit Sharma said?

In the conversation (the audio of which could be heard in now deleted video originally posted by KKR and then shared by others), Rohit is heard telling Nayar that evey single thing seems to be changing and that while it was upon them, it was him who built that team as a divine space. He further goes on to say that it will be his last, KKR deleted the video soon after posting it on their social media channels.

In another incident following the conversation with Nayyar, Rohit is seen folding his hands in front of the camera, requesting the broadcasters to not record the conversation, adding that the previous one had gotten him into enough trouble.
