Is Team India well-prepared for T20 World Cup? ‘Reserve’ Avesh Khan raises concern

With the IPL 2024 taking over 2 long months, it has reduced the practice time for Team India ahead of the T20 World Cup as the Men in Blue are scheduled to play only 1 warm-up fixture

Avesh Khan, included as a reserve player in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad, has highlighted a potential issue – the hectic IPL schedule hindering player practice ahead of the marquee tournament.

The Rajasthan Royals pacer has lamented the lack of dedicated practice time during the IPL season due to the jam-packed fixture list. With the T20 World Cup approaching, Avesh feels practice sessions are crucial for all players, including those on the fringes of the main squad.

During an IPL season, you don’t get to practice that much because the games are back-to-back,” Avesh told broadcasters in a pre-match interview ahead of the clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). This raises concerns, especially considering India’s limited World Cup preparation schedule.

No space for high-intensity practice

Avesh’s comments raise valid points. With the IPL playoffs approaching, players like him, who are part of the World Cup squad but not guaranteed a starting spot, might find themselves with limited opportunities to hone their skills before the main event. This lack of practice could potentially affect their performance on the global stage.

India’s decision to have just one warm-up match adds to the concern. While the team boasts experienced players, a crucial tournament like the World Cup necessitates focused practice sessions to refine strategies and team combinations.
