Sunil Chhetri, the iconic Indian footballer, dropped a bombshell when he announced his retirement from international football. Chhetri, a legend with 150 appearances and 94 goals for the national team, shared the news via a social media platform (previously known as Twitter). His last match will be India’s upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifier against Kuwait on June 6.
Gurpreet Singh Sandhu’s Lighthearted Message to Chhetri
Following Chhetri’s announcement, India’s senior goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu offered some playful advice to his captain. In a humorous remark quoted by The Bridge, Sandhu said, “My message to him would be, ‘Bhai abhi bhi waqt hai, video delete kar do aur bol do, just joking. I am still around‘ (Brother, there’s still time. Delete the video and say that I was joking. I am still around).
While Chhetri’s journey with the national team concludes on June 6, the memories he leaves behind are countless. Sandhu, though finding it difficult to choose just one, shared some of his most cherished moments playing alongside Chhetri.
