Meiraba Luwang Maisnam stuns Mads Christophersen to reach Thailand Open QF

He had earlier defeated Olympic-bound HS Prannoy in a hard-fought 55-minute battle

After causing an upset against HS Prannoy, India’s Meiraba Luwang Maisnam has advanced to the Men’s singles Quarter Finals of the Thailand Open Badminton today. The 21-year-old Indian shuttler surprised Mads Christophersen of Denmark in straight games, 21-14, 22-20, securing his first quarter-final in the Super 500 tournament.

Ranked 75 places below his renowned opponent from the same country, Maisnam Meiraba Luwang triumphed in straight games. His victory over India’s No. 1 HS Prannoy, with a hard-fought 55-minute battle, propelled him to the round of 16.

Other results at the Thailand Open

In the women’s singles, India’s Ashmita Chaliha is set to face the top-seeded Han Yue of China in the second round this afternoon. Meanwhile, in Men’s Doubles, the star Indian duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will confront the Chinese pair Xie Hao Nan and Zeng Wei Han in the round of 16.

In the women’s doubles, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa will compete against En-Tzu Hung and Yu-Pei Lin of Taiwan. Additionally, another doubles pair, Rutaparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda, will take on Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanish of Japan in the pre-quarters this afternoon.
