Tom Kohler-Cadmore made his IPL and Rajasthan Royals debut in the RR vs PBKS match on May 15. His first outing was nothing short of forgetful, but it was something he was wearing that piqued everyone’s eye. The English batter scored a sluggish 18(23) while opening the batting and wasn’t able to fill the gap left by Jos Buttler.
Kohler-Cadmore was seen wearing a black device around his neck during his 23-ball stay in the middle. Many were left perplexed as to why he was wearing it. Was it for fashion or something to monitor his health and fitness, like the whoop band that many, including Virat Kohli, have been spotted wearing?
Tom Kohler-Cadmore wearing a Q-Collar
Developed by a company named Q30 Innovations, the Q-Collar is a lightweight device that athletes across glove wear to minimize head injuries. The device has been mostly used by American football players in the NFL (National Football League) to protect them from brain injuries.
Kohler-Cadmore is the first cricketer to ever wear a head protective device. This bodes well for the cricket community at large. One would hope that many would follow his steps and take their safety as seriously as he has been doing.
