Most Wins as T20I Captain: Pakistan’s Babar Azam reigns supreme; Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni far behind

Babar Azam's leadership has now yielded a record-breaking 45th T20I win for Pakistan.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has etched his name in the record books, becoming the captain with the most wins in the history of men’s T20I cricket. This remarkable feat comes on the back of Pakistan’s emphatic seven-wicket victory against Ireland in the second T20I.

Babar Azam scripts history

Chasing a challenging target of 193, Pakistan secured a series-tying victory with three overs to spare. The architect of this win was the 140-run partnership between Mohammad Rizwan (75*) and Fakhar Zaman (78).

However, the real story lies with Babar Azam himself. His leadership has now yielded a record-breaking 45th T20I win for Pakistan, surpassing Uganda’s Brian Masaba and leaving behind legendary captains like Eoin Morgan (England), MS Dhoni (India), and Aaron Finch (Australia).

Blip for Babar Azam

While Babar himself couldn’t contribute much with the bat, being dismissed early, his team rose to the occasion. Rizwan and Zaman displayed exceptional skill, Rizwan providing stability and Zaman unleashing his six-hitting power. Their dominant partnership effectively sealed the deal for Pakistan.

Late Blitz from Azam Khan

Fakhar’s dismissal in the 15th over offered Ireland a brief window of hope. But Azam Khan, coming in at the crucial juncture, smashed an unbeaten 30 off just 10 deliveries, putting the final nail in Ireland’s coffin and securing a comprehensive victory for Pakistan.

Focus Shifts to Ireland vs Pakistan 3rd T20I

With the series leveled at 1-1, all eyes are now on the third and final T2OI in Dublin on Tuesday. Babar’s record-breaking achievement will undoubtedly boost Pakistan’s confidence, while Ireland will be determined to bounce back and clinch the series win on home soil.
