Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have dropped Ajinkya Rahane from their playing XI in the final home game in Chennai against RR. The veteran batter’s performances has been below-par so far in IPL 2024, despite having played in most matches for the side this year.
With the mega auction coming up ahead of IPL 2025, it can might as well mean that Rahane has played his final match already. He is unlikely to be retained or be bought by any franchise. Rahane was roped in to CSK for a price of Rs 50 lakh in 2023.
IPL doors closed for Ajinkya Rahane?
In 12 innings, Rahane has managed to score only 209 runs, boasting of an awful strike rate of 120. Lack of runs from the veteran star despite opening the batting for the team has been a huge concern for CSK and hence dropping Rahane would be justified.

Rahane’s performance this year is quite to contrary to what it was in the previous edition. The Mumbai batter had shattered the myth of him being a Test match player with fiery knocks in IPL 2023. Such was his performance that fans attributed CSK for the revival of Rahane’s career.
