Aman Sehrawat becomes first Indian male wrestler to secure Paris Olympic 2024 quota

However, Deepak Punia's hopes of qualifying were crushed after a loss in the first round

At the World Wrestling Olympic Qualifiers in Istanbul, Turkey, Aman Sehrawat secured India’s first quota place in the men’s 57kg category for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Sehrawat clinched victory in the semifinals, defeating North Korea’s Chongsong Han 12-2.

Amar claimed stellar win

Aman, boasting titles from the U23 World Championships and the senior Asian Championship, displayed a stellar performance. The 20-year-old wrestler, training at Chhatrasal stadium, dominated his opponents, securing double-digit scores in all three matches.

Winning two bouts by technical superiority showcased his skill on the mat. He becomes India’s first male wrestler to qualify for the Paris Games, averting the nation’s embarrassment of no men’s section qualification. Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Ravi Dahiya also competes in 57kg, potentially leading to trials for Aman to secure his Paris ticket.
