DRS, May 11: Sudharsan & Gill’s record-breaking spree, Mohit finds his mojo & Ahmedabad goes crazy for MSD

Welcome to our special segment, DRS or the Daily Review System. InsideSport will provide you with the top stories of IPL from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

With each passing day, we are seeing records tumble left and right in IPL 2024. Yesterday, it was veteran Virat Kohli who reached new heights, and today we saw what the future holds for Indian cricket. The Gujarat Titans’ young guns, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, went berserk against the Chennai Super Kings and ensured that their side remained in the chase for the playoffs.

In a day that belongs to young bucks, two veterans also shined. Mohit Sharma finally found his mojo back after a rough couple of outings, while injured MS Dhoni ended the match with the highest strike rate by a batter in the GT vs CSK match.

Opener’s Day Out

Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill broke many records against CSK. The first domino to fall was the southpaw, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record as he became the fastest Indian batter to score 1000 runs in the IPL. Gill then became the batter to score the 100th hundred in the league, and Sudharsan then joined him as the second centurion, which was the first instance of both openers scoring tons in an IPL match. They also equaled KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock’s record for the highest opening stand in the IPL’s history

Rohit Sharma’s last IPL?

Before the KKR vs MI match on May 11, the former Mumbai Indians skipper dropped a hint that IPL 2024 could be his last. Talking with KKR’s assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar, Rohit Sharma was heard saying that he’d probably leave. Whether it means that he’ll leave MI or IPL is still uncertain.

Outpour of love for MS Dhoni

Ahmedabad fans flocked in huge numbers to see Thala for what could be the last match at Narendra Modi Stadium. They shattered the highest attendance record in IPL 2024 and went berserk as he hit an incredible 26(11). One fan couldn’t control himself and stormed into the middle to bow in front of his idol.

Jay Shah on the Impact Player Rule

The BCCI Secretary called the bombshell experiment, the impact player rule, a test case. He claimed that the jury is still out on the innovation’s benefit, and the aim of it is to play one more Indian player. However, it said that if stakeholders object to it, they’ll think about discontinuing it.

Mohit the Man

It’s been a topsy-turvy season for Mohit Sharma. The veteran pacer did so well at the start that people wanted him on the plane for the T20 World Cup, but then performed so badly that his side stopped trusting him. The 35-year-old came back in fine fashion today. He broke a 109-run stand between Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali, getting both out in consecutive overs, and then sent CSK’s best batter this season, Shivam Dube, to the hut to seal the deal for GT.

Hardik Pandya ego-driven?

T20 great AB de Villiers has claimed that the Mumbai Indians skipper is putting on an act and isn’t being genuine. He compared him to MS Dhoni, someone who’s always confident in him but has always backed that up with results. He claimed that his style of captaincy may have worked at GT, where they had young players, but at MI, he might not find success with the same approach.
