GT vs CSK: Dhoni cameo not enough as Gill-Sai tons keep Gujarat in playoff race

With two matches to go, Gujarat Titans keep their faint hopes of reaching IPL 2024 playoffs alive but also dent Chennai Super Kings's chances with 35-run win.

GT vs CSK, Match 59: Gujarat Titans stay alive in IPL 2024 Playoff race with a clinical 35-run win over Chennai Super Kings. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan shattered records with a 210-run record opening stand. But in response, Gujarat bowlers were also up to the task as CSK could only manage 196/8 despite MS Dhoni hammering 11-ball 26. Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali smashed half-centuries but with the top-order failing, CSK did not have enough.

Earlier, sent to bat, Shubman and Sudharsan wreaked havoc on CSK. The duo stitched together a record partnership while going on to score centuries each. Sudharsan brought up his maiden IPL hundred while ‘Prince’ Gill smashed his fourth hundred in the tournament. CSK found the breakthrough too late, with Tushar Deshpande striking twice in the 17th over, removing Gill and Sai after the damage was done.
