Always on my mind: Neeraj Chopra focuses on ‘added responsibility’ to defend his Olympic gold in Paris

Prior to Chopra's 87.58-meter throw at the Tokyo Games in 2020, European competitors had won 15 of the previous 16 gold medals in men's events.

Neeraj Chopra, the reigning world champion and Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 gold medalist, will try to defend his title in the Paris Olympics, which will take place from July 26 to August 11, this year. Chopra’s outdoor season begins on Friday with the Diamond League’s Doha leg, and he will also play in India for the first time in three years, competing in the Federation Cup in Bhubaneshwar from May 12-15.

‘It is all about the mindset with which we train. Always on my mind that I have to defend my gold medal. It is an added responsibility for me. While other comes with the mindset that they will have to win this, my motivation is that I have to win it. For me there is no change as of yet but with the Paris Olympics coming closer I am getting more and more motivated about defending my medal. ‘ said Chopra speaking to NNIS.
