Abhishek Sharma in reserves for T20 World Cup 2024 squad? Harbhajan Singh gives his verdict

Abhishek Sharma has been the find of IPL 2024, where the southpaw has amassed over 401 runs un 12 encounters for the SRH.

If there is one player who has impressed the most in the last few matches in IPL 2024, it has to be SRH’s Abhishek Sharma. The southpaw opening batter scored 75 from 28 deliveries in the match against LSG on Wednesday and took his team to victory in only 9.4 overs. But it was no flash in the pan innings for the Punjab lad. In fact, this has been an excellent year for him, where he has amassed over 401 runs in 12 matches.

Abhishek Sharma Makes Strong Case for T20 World Cup

Whether he makes it to the T20 World Cup 2024 squad as a reserve, remains to be seen, but then, the calls to include him have already started. Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh is one of the them, and wants Abhishek Sharma on flight to USA & the West Indies, as part of the reserves for the T20 World Cup.

“What the hell just happened in Hyd #Travishead & @IamAbhiSharma4 Hitting sixes like taking singles. Chased 165 in 9.4 overs . Should Team India include Abhishek in the bench strength ?? @IPL @BCCI @SunRisers,” he wrote on X.

Meanwhile, Harbhajan isn’t the only player to have such opinion. Former coach Mike Hesson also felt the same. “Hesson would say that there will be a few changes to the Indian team after the World Cup and Abhishek would be in the mix with the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill.

“Oh, look, I think so. I mean, I think his ability to take on spin in the power play. And he’s improved greatly against pace,” Hesson told JioCinema. “He is a high quality player. He’s a boundary hitter. He is a six hitter and no doubt post World Cup, and he will start to make some changes, whether it be Jaiswal, himself or Shubman Gill. To be fair, there’s a few. There’s plenty of names, but he will definitely be one that will have plenty of people talking about.”
