India’s spin quartet raises eyebrows, not for Courtney Walsh

India’s inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja in their 15-man squad sparked discussion due to the sheer number of spinners. However, Walsh, a highly respected West Indies pace legend, expressed no surprise.

India picking four spinners, I’m not surprised,” Walsh said to PTI. “It seems to be their strength,” he elaborated, highlighting India’s established proficiency with spin bowling. He further noted that West Indies themselves have opted for three spinners in their squad, emphasizing that “different conditions and everybody has to balance the team.”

India spinners complemented by Pace Attack

While the focus rests heavily on India’s spin contingent, Walsh acknowledges their strong pace attack as well. “India still have quality fast bowlers,” he pointed out, emphasizing that most teams do, making for a well-rounded competition.

Courtney Walsh predicts the tournament will likely be dominated by batsmen, making it difficult to predict clear winners or standout bowlers. He highlights that success will hinge on excellent execution from each participating team.

West Indies look to shine as Co-Hosts

With the World Cup co-hosted by the West Indies, Walsh expresses optimism for his home team’s chances. He sees a “nice balanced team” with the potential to “play quality cricket” and advance past the group stage.

That will help him become fitter, stronger and better. You can only play if you are fit enough,” Walsh advised, emphasizing the importance of experience gained through playing time. He concluded by stressing the crucial role of injury management in ensuring Bumrah’s continued success.
