Jake Fraser-McGurk responds to Australia’s T20 World Cup snub with 19-ball fifty as Warner watches on

Despite getting to his half-century in just 19 balls, this wasn't even Fraser-McGurk's quickest fifty of the IPL 2024 season.

A star in the making! Jake Fraser-McGurk has continued to impress in the IPL 2024 season. The swashbuckling opener scored yet another quickfire fifty. The 22-year-old got to his half-century in just 19 balls and made the CA (Cricket Australia) selectors rethink his place in Australia’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad.

The more incredible thing isn’t that he scored a fifty in just 19 balls, but that it’s his third-slowest one of the season. The opener has already scored two 15-ball half-centuries, which are the fastest by a player in the ongoing season. Not only that, but Jake Fraser-McGurk is also the first player in IPL’s history to score three fifties in less than 20 balls.

Will Jake Fraser-McGurk find a spot in the T20 World Cup squad?

Despite incredible T20 numbers and a staggering IPL record, he failed to find a spot in Australia’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad. However, given that David Warner is injured and hasn’t done well when he’s played, Fraser-McGurk might just find a place.

Travis Head’s incredible form makes him a certainty as the opener. It’s now up to CA to decide if they want to give Warner one last hurrah or go for the youngster instead. However, the veteran southpaw doesn’t seem to have an issue with youngster success.

Warner was the first to applaud Fraser-McGurk as he got to his landmark with a six over mid-wicket. The 22-year-old may be his competitor for the opener spot in the T20 World Cup 2024, but that isn’t going to stop Warner from celebrating his success.
