With the T20 World Cup on the horizon, questions are swirling around the workload management of Jasprit Bumrah, currently the IPL’s leading wicket-taker. While some, including former cricketer Wasim Jaffer, have called for Bumrah to be rested in the remaining Mumbai Indians (MI) matches, the team insists there are currently “no talks” regarding this.
Jasprit Bumrah stellar IPL 2024
Despite MI’s struggles this season, Jasprit Bumrah has been a shining light. He currently leads the IPL 2024 in wickets with 17 scalps in just 11 matches, boasting an impressive average of 16.11 and an exceptional economy rate of 6.45. However, concerns remain about potential burnout before the T20 World Cup.
MI Team management holds reins
MI batsman Naman Dhir addressed the issue during a press conference, stating that the decision regarding Bumrah’s participation rests solely with the team management. While acknowledging the upcoming World Cup, Dhir emphasized that no discussions about resting Bumrah have taken place as of yet.
“Right now there are no talks regarding this, but it’s up to (the team) management to take a decision,” said Naman Dhir.
Focus on Rohit Sharma fitness
Naman Dhir also provided an update on Rohit Sharma, who featured as an impact substitute in MI’s last outing due to mild back stiffness. Dhir assured fans that the move was purely precautionary and expects Sharma to be fully fit for the upcoming match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
