Cheteshwar Pujara’s 64th First Class century shows he is not done yet, eyes India vs Australia Test series comeback

Pujara's unbeaten century serves as a testament to his enduring talent and determination.

Cheteshwar Pujara slammed a brilliant century in County Championship action, sending a strong message to Indian selectors (BCCI) with an eye on the upcoming India vs Australia Test series Down Under.

Cheteshwar Pujara stellar form continues

The Indian stalwart struck an unbeaten 104 for Sussex, his 64th First Class century, against his former club Derbyshire. This is also his ninth hundred in just three seasons in English county. This dominant knock follows his impressive run in the Ranji Trophy.

In England this season, he has already amassed 234 runs in just three innings with only one dismissal.

Dominant Sussex batting display

Cheteshwar Pujara wasn’t the only Sussex batsman to shine. Tom Haines, Tom Alsop, and James Coles all contributed valuable half-centuries, propelling their team to a commanding 357 for 5 at the close of day two. This puts Sussex in a strong position, with a lead of 111 runs over Derbyshire.

India vs Australia Test Series looms large

Cheteshwar Pujara’s return to form is a timely boost for India, who will be locking horns with Australia in a historic five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year. The series, starting in November, will be India’s first five-Test tour Down Under since 1991-92.

Cheteshwar Pujara County runs put him in radar

Having been dropped from the Indian Test team, Cheteshwar Pujara’s consistent run-scoring in the County Championship is a strong reminder of his capabilities. If he can maintain this form, he has a great chance to earn a comeback into the Indian squad for the crucial series against Australia.

While Derbyshire managed to grab a couple of late wickets through Luis Reece, Pujara and his teammate John Carlston ensured Sussex ended the day firmly in control.

Pujara’s unbeaten century serves as a testament to his enduring talent and determination. As India gears up for a challenging Test series against Australia, his red-hot form makes him a strong contender for a place in the Indian batting line-up.
