Relief for India, Rohit Sharma bats in the nets after injury scare ahead of T20 World Cup

Rohit struggled in the match against KKR at the Wankhede Stadium, scoring only 11 runs off 12 balls

Mumbai Indian’s ongoing struggle has again been amplified with the former Mumbai Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma experiencing mild back stiffness before the team’s IPL 2024 match against Kolkata Knight Riders. This led to Sharma playing as an Impact Player, raising questions about his fitness ahead of India’s T20 World Cup campaign right away. However, there was a sigh of relief as the India skipper was seen practising in the nets ahead of Mumbai’s next game.

Rohit Sharma posted a photo on social media, with the caption “Never. Set. Go.” to reassure fans that he’s back in action.

Rohit Sharma falters against KKR

Despite his return to the nets, Rohit struggled in the match against KKR at the Wankhede Stadium, scoring only 11 runs off 12 balls. Mumbai’s batting faltered against KKR’s disciplined bowling, leading to the team’s eighth loss of the IPL season. The loss has jeopardized Mumbai Indians’ chances of making it to the playoffs.

Can Mumbai Indians still make it to IPL 2024 playoffs

Mumbai Indians now have only a slim chance of reaching the playoffs. With six points from 11 games, they need to win all their remaining matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), KKR, and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to stay in contention. Even if they manage to secure those wins, Mumbai will also need other results to go their way, hoping that either LSG or SRH do not earn more than 12 points. While the situation seems challenging, the return of Rohit Sharma to the nets is a positive sign for both Mumbai Indians and India’s T20 World Cup hopes.
