Indian relay teams eye Paris Olympic qualification quotas: Live Streaming details and schedule

Held at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas, the World Athletics Relays 24 serves as a qualifying event for relay teams aiming to earn quotas for the Paris Olympics 2024.

India will to secure quotas in three 400m relay events as they participate in the World Relays 2024, scheduled for May 4 to 5 in Nassau, Bahamas. This weekend’s event will witness the participation of 893 athletes from 54 countries, including 15 from India, competing for Paris 2024 qualification across five relay categories: men’s 4x400m and 4x100m, women’s 4x400m and 4x100m, and mixed 4x400m. India, however, is solely focusing on the three 400m relay events—men’s, women’s, and mixed.

India aim for 3 Paris Olympics quotas in World Relays 2024

The top 14 teams in each event will secure quotas for their respective countries for the Paris 2024 Olympics, where 16 teams will compete in each event. The remaining two places will be allocated based on top lists during the qualification period spanning from December 31, 2022, to June 30, 2024.

Paris Olympic quotas will be up for grabs on both days of the competition. The top two teams in each heat on the opening day will advance to the final on the second day while also securing Paris 2024 quotas.

Seeding positions for the Olympic lanes will be determined in the finals on Day Two, where teams will also vie for medals. All other teams will partake in an additional qualifying round on the second day, and the top two teams from each heat will qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The men’s 4x400m relay will see participation from 32 teams, while 27 teams will compete in the women’s 4x400m. Additionally, 30 teams are listed for the mixed 4x400m relay at the World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24.

Indian squad at the World Relays 2024

Leading the Indian challenge are Amoj Jacob, Muhammad Anas Yahiya, Muhammad Ajmal, and Rajesh Ramesh, who clinched the Asian Games gold medal in men’s 4x400m relay at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games. They will be joined by Arokia Rajiv, Noah Nirmal Tom, Yashas Palaksha, and Avinash Krishna Kumar.

Vithya Ramraj, Aishwarya Mishra, Prachi, and Subha Venkatesan, comprising the women’s 4x400m relay team, aim to replicate their success from the Hangzhou Asian Games. Veteran runner MR Poovamma, Jyothika Sri Dandi, and Rupal complete the squad. Vithya Ramraj and Rajesh Ramesh, part of the silver medal-winning Asian Games 2023 team, feature in the Indian mixed 4x400m team alongside Jyothika Sri Dandi, Amoj Jacob, Rupal, and Yashas.
