Fitness concerns have significantly increased in IPL 2024. This is especially more important for the Indian stars that will travel to USA and Caribbeans for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. But heading into the tournament, the Men in Blue don’t look a 100% fit. Unlike the ODI World Cup, injury concerns are much higher for this mega ICC tournament.
Team India has fitness and injury concerns for quite a few players., The latest addition to the list, India skipper Rohit Sharma. The former Mumbai Indians skipper didn’t field and was used as an Impact player by Hardik Pandya in the MI vs KKR clash. After the match, Piyush Chawla claimed, “He just had a mild back stiffness, so it was just a precautionary thing.”

Trouble in Paradise?
Not just Rohit Sharma, there are quite a few players in the team who are not 100% fit ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup. One such name is Suryakumar Yadav. The World Number 1 T20I batter hasn’t been fielding regularly for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024. This is mainly owing to the fact that he is regaining his 100% fitness.
SKY had an ankle injury while playing against South Africa. Following which he went under the knife. After his ankle injury, he under went a sports hernia injury. Back to back surgeries delayed his entry in IPL 2024. As a result he missed out on the opening matches for MI.
Another name that comes to the list is Shivam Dube. The destructive southpaw got injured and missed the latter stages of the Ranji Trophy. For Chennai Super Kings, Dube is mainly used as a finisher role under the Impact Player rule. This is greatly reduced his bowling abilities.
As these stars continue to build on their fitness and gather momentum, it is imperative that they reach full fitness before the start of the mega tournament. Hardik Pandya too returned to action in IPL 2024 since last playing against Bangladesh in ODI World Cup where he suffered an ankle injury.
The Men in Blue will greatly miss Mohammed Shami who has been ruled out of the tournament. The highest wicket-taker of ODI World Cup went under the knife for an ankle surgery and is likely to be out for the next couple of months.
