Canada squad for historic T20 World Cup debut announced, Saad Bin Zafar to captain

Pubudu Dassanayake, a former Sri Lankan and Canadian international, will be guiding the team from the sidelines.

Canada has named their 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with seasoned all-rounder Saad Bin Zafar leading the charge. This marks a monumental occasion, as Canada makes its debut appearance at the prestigious tournament.

Canada squad packed with experience

The Canadian squad boasts a wealth of experience, with the majority of players exceeding 30 years of age. Saad Bin Zafar, the newly appointed captain, is a left-arm orthodox spinner known for his composure and leadership qualities. Veteran batsman Aaron Johnson and potent left-arm seamer Kaleem Sana are also expected to be key figures on the team.

Focus on Stability

While experience is a clear strength, the team features just four players under 30. This approach signifies Canada’s focus on building a stable and well-seasoned unit for their historic World Cup debut.

Tough T20 World Cup Group awaits for Canada

Canada has been placed in Group A alongside co-hosts USA, India, Pakistan, and Ireland. Their journey begins on June 1st when they face the USA in Dallas, a team that recently triumphed over them in a bilateral series.

Coaching Under Former International

Pubudu Dassanayake, a former Sri Lankan and Canadian international, will be guiding the team from the sidelines. Having taken the reins in 2022, Dassanayake’s experience will be invaluable as Canada navigates the challenges of the World Cup.
