Skilled all-arounder Aqib Ilyas has been assigned to captain Oman in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which the West Indies and the USA will co-host from June 1–29. Ilyas takes over as team captain from veteran Zeeshan Maqsood, and the 15-member roster that was revealed on Wednesday is not particularly surprising. Maqsood had led Oman as its captain in 92 matches.
Perfect mix of experience and youthful exuberance
Head coach of the national team and chief development officer of Oman Cricket, Duleep Mendis, has put his faith in experienced players. Nine members of the team were part of Oman’s 2021 T20 World Cup squad.
Six players will be making their debuts in T20 World Cup. They are all-rounders Shoaib Khan and Rafiullah, wicketkeeper Pratik Athavale. Spinner Shakeel Ahmad, and specialist batters Kashyap Prajapati and Khalid Kail will also be making their debuts.
