Despite impressive outing in IPL 2024, selectors to look beyond Yuzvendra Chahal for T20 World Cup 2024: Report

In spite of the leg-spinner taking 13 wickets in 9 matches so far in the IPL 2024, India are likely to pursue with Kuldeep Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi and Ravindra Jadeja as spinners.

With the Indian team selection for the T20 World Cup 2024 looming large, there are a lot of interesting player battles to look forward to. With the IPL 2024 going on in full flow, a lot a discussion has been raging on if a good performance in the IPL will warrant a place in the India team for the T20 World Cup. While there’s no clarity on the remaining departments, if a report is to be believed, a good IPL performance will not land Yuzvendra Chahal a place in the Indian team in the T20 World Cup.

Wickets galore for Yuzvendra Chahal in IPL

Yuzvendra Chahal has continued to prove himself in IPL 2024. The Rajasthan Royals leg-spinner has taken 13 wickets in 9 matches so far in the IPL 2024. Chahal sits at the 6th spot of the Purple Cap list, just one wicket behind top wicket-taker Jasprit Bumrah. Although he is taking wickets at regular intervals, his economy rate of 9 runs per over is a worry for RR.

Latest News on T20 World Cup

In 80 T20I matches so far, Chahal has taken 96 wickets. However, he has struggled to get himself picked in India’s T20I team off late, with his last appearance in the format for the national team coming in August.

No place in Team India

However, in spite of the impressive outing in the IPL 2024, Chahal is unlikely to get picked for the T20 World Cup. According to a report from Indian Express, the Indian selectors are keen on taking Kuldeep Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi and Ravindra Jadeja as the three spinners in the World Cup squad. Chahal in all probability will miss the bus.
