Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Shreyas Iyer has opened about his captaincy challenges. The ace batter became a captain at the age of 23 years for Delhi Capitals. The KKR skipper claimed that there was pressure on the captaincy, but he enjoys and thrives under these challenges.
After his stint with Delhi Capitals, Shreyas Iyer joined the Knight Riders and went on to captain the Kolkata outfits. He missed IPL 2023 entirely with an injury. But come IPL 2024, Shreyas Iyer was back with the squad leading his side effectively.

“I personally feel that I thrive under challenges. It was a wonderful opportunity to captain the side. I grabbed it with both hands. Obviously, there was pressure. At that age because you haven’t performed exceptional but you want to showcase you maturity at that level,” Shreyas Iyer said.
It is never easy being an young captain. For Delhi Capitals, Iyer became the head of his team at the tender age of 23 years, Iyer went on to divulge how he enjoyed the challenges. He went on to slam an unbeaten 93 run knock which served as an example for the rest of the team.
“I thought the only way I can gain trust is from my teammates, seniors and juniors by performing. And luckily in first game when I got the captaincy, I scored 93 not out. I was like Thank God. After that I gained the trust and could be a little commanding around the team,” Iyer concluded.
