What a day it was for both Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings fans, with both teams finding their way back to winning ways. And that too in a spectacular fashion. RCB pulled off a very un-RCBish kind of run-chase as Will Jacks tore the house down with his monstrous sixes, And by his side was none other than the old guard Virat Kohli, who had rightfully said earlier – ‘I’ve still got’.
In the southern derby, there were many instances which put smiles on the faces of the CSK fans while silencing a loud SRH fanbase which has been vociferous in IPL 2024 so far, given the team’s antics. To start off, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad led from the front and let his bat do the talking. Next, a gun which absolutely failed to fire before this game went berserk. Yes, we are talking about none other than Daryll Mitchell. And speaking of comebacks, Tushar Deshpande showed how it’s done with the ball. On that note, let’s take a look at the eyeball grabbing headlines from a cracker of a double header contest on Sunday.
Don’t blink, you might miss Will Jacks’ ton
The crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium witnessed a freakish innings by Will Jacks, who came up with a breathtaking display of carnage. Jacks began with a measured approach, scoring 17 runs off his first 17 balls. He then got to his fifty in 31 balls. But then came the next six minutes, a whirlwind that turned the tide of the match. Between 6:41 pm and 6:47 pm, Jacks unleashed pure carnage. He plundered a mind-boggling milestone, transforming his fifty into a resounding hundred.
Never count out Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli silenced his critics in emphatic fashion with a match-winning 70* off 44 deliveries against the Gujarat Titans (GT) on Saturday. Following his brilliant knock, Kohli addressed to some questions and fired back at those who have been questioning his batting form, particularly his strike rate in the middle overs and his struggles against spin bowling.
A captain’s knock
Ruturaj Gaikwad is making life difficult for BCCI selectors. The India cricket team’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad could be announced in a couple of days, and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper is making life hard for Ajit Agarkar and Rohit Sharma. The CSK skipper nearly scored a century, guiding his team to a mammoth total against SRH which they defended it what was a one-sided match.
Please welcome, Daryll Mitchell!
CSK latest pick Daryll Mitchell had failed to fire in all games before the match vs SRH on Sunday. We guess something snapped. First, he went on to score his maiden IPL half-century as he batted alongside skipper Gaikwad to guide CSK towards 200 with ease. Next, he took five catches – the only second time that it has been done in an IPL game. With this game, Mitchell has announced his arrival in IPL 2024 and sends a warning to critics to never count him out.
Remember Tushar Deshpande?
Tushar Deshpande had a below-par IPL 2024 season so far. Not anymore. The CSK pacer was instrumental in providing the perfect start to deter a SRH batting unit that has absolutely run riot so far in the tournament. He grabbed three wickets within the powerplay, getting rid of the danger men. He went on take his fourth wicket in the death overs as CSK nailed the final coffin in SRH’s case. He finished with figures of 4/27, his best in T20s so far.
Unbeaten Thala
MS Dhoni has done it again. In all the innings he has walked out to bat so far, MSD has stayed unbeaten, not being dismissed even once. This time at the Chepauk, he only had a small role to play but he didn’t fail to deliver the fireworks. Having only a couple of balls to face, Thala plummeted a delivery to the boundary off his very first delivery while running the second one for a single. Needless to say, given his form in the death overs, we still await to see which team manages to dismiss Dhoni for the first-time ever in IPL 2024.
