Kolkata to host ISL 2023-24 Final as Mohun Bagan Super Giant edge past Odisha FC

The ISL final being held in Kolkata is significant, as the city has never hosted the ISL final despite being home to the league's inaugural season in 2014.

The ISL 2023-24 final will be held at Kolkata’s iconic Salt Lake Stadium, also known as Yuva Bharati Krirangan, on May 4. Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s 3-2 aggregate victory over Odisha in the semifinals on Sunday made sure that Kolkata hosted their first-ever Indian Super League final.

Mohun Bagan trailed 1-2 going into the second leg of the semifinal but made a strong comeback, thanks to goals from Jason Cummings and Sahal Abdul Samad, sealing their place in the ISL final. This result not only confirmed Mohun Bagan’s final spot but also solidified Salt Lake Stadium as the venue for the final match.

VYBK to host ISL 2023-24

Earlier in the week, the ISL announced that the final would be held at the home ground of the higher-ranked team. With Mohun Bagan topping the league phase and winning the League Winners Shield, the Mariners’ semifinal win over Odisha locked in the final’s location in Kolkata.

The Salt Lake Stadium has been a fortuitous venue for Mohun Bagan this season. It was here that they won both the Shield and the Durand Cup, and they also achieved a memorable 2-1 victory against Mumbai City FC in their final league-phase match in front of over 61,000 fans.

The Mariners and their fans will be hoping to make the most of the home advantage when they face off in the ISL 2023-24 final at Salt Lake Stadium.
