Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) emphatic win over Gujarat Titans (GT) was fueled by a match-winning partnership and the scorching Ahmedabad heat, it seems. While Virat Kohli’s 70* off 44 balls was impressive, it was Will Jacks’ audacious 41-ball century that stole the show.
While chasing a target of 201, Jacks and Virat Kohli stitched together a match-winning partnership of 166* runs. But it was Jacks’ rapid acceleration from a fifty to a hundred in just 10 balls that was out of ordinary. Kohli, batting at the other end, revealed a hilarious anecdote that exposed the true reason behind Jacks’ sudden six-hitting spree.
Virat Kohli reveals Will Jacks’ ‘secret’
“He (Will Jacks) called for a two, and when he looked back, I was ready for three,” Kohli said in a video shared by RCB’s official ‘X’ handle. “He decided ‘I will hit every ball for a six now because I will not be running anymore.'” Jacks chimed in with a sheepish grin, “It was too hot!” before both players burst into laughter. Kohli then added jokingly, “That was the secret.”
The scorching Ahmedabad afternoon, with temperatures hovering around 40 degrees Celsius, clearly played a role in Jacks’ approach. Perhaps deciding running wasn’t an option, Jacks went berserk, smashing 46 runs in his last 10 balls, including a flurry of sixes, to reach his maiden IPL century. This power-hitting display sealed the win for RCB with four overs to spare.
