Former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood on Sunday was named as the national team’s assistant coach for all formats. Azhar, who was appointed on a temporary basis for the New Zealand Series, was made permanent. Azhar has been appointed on a two-year contract following a recruitment process.
Having served as the Pakistan team’s bowling coach in the past, Mahmood, who is based in the United Kingdom, offers a wealth of experience to the coaching setup. To add even more legitimacy to his coaching credentials, he is also a certified coach with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
Mahmood’s past experience
He had been an assistant coach for Surrey since 2022, a successful period during which they won two County Championship titles in a row. Mahmood has also served as a coach for The Hundred and the Pakistan Super League.

Mahmood is currently the bowling coach of Pakistan Super League (PSL) champions Islamabad United.

Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie have been appointed as the head coaches of the white ball and the red ball formats respectively.
