Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) face off against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their IPL 2024 encounter today, and there were concerns regarding the availability of star pacer Mitchell Starc. However, KKR all-rounder Ramandeep Singh has dismissed those concerns, confirming Starc’s availability for selection.
Light training sparks Mitchell Starc injury speculation
Mitchell Starc‘s participation was questioned after he opted for light training sessions in the lead-up to the match. This, coupled with reports of a finger injury sustained during the previous match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, fueled speculation that the Australian quick might be rested.
Workload management, not Injury: Ramandeep Singh
Ramandeep Singh clarified that Starc’s light training was part of a workload management strategy. He emphasized that Starc is “available” for selection and deserves continued support despite his recent struggles.
“Yes, he’s available. It’s got to do with his workload management,” Ramandeep said in the pre-match press conference. “He is a legend. Cricket is a game of time. We can’t judge him from a few matches,” he said.
Focus on Improvement, Not Judgement ft Mitchell Starc
Ramandeep Singh highlighted that the team prioritizes improvement and execution over harsh judgements on individual performances. He believes Mitchell Starc, a proven legend, deserves time to overcome his current slump.
Eyes on Present, Not Distant Future
While currently occupying the second spot in the IPL standings, KKR remains focused on taking things one match at a time. Their immediate challenge is to overcome PBKS, and discussions are centered around executing well-defined plans rather than fixating on a potential top-two finish.
