In a massive update regarding the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA, the drop in pitches for the tournament from Australia have reached the host nation. As per a report by the BBC, having made a journey from Down Under, these pitches would have traveled over 14,000 miles approximately, through ship.
Drop-in Pitches for T20 World Cup
The pitches have been brought from Adelaide, via Florida, while the matches in the USA are to be played in New York, Texas and Florida. Also, as per the schedule for the T20 World Cup, 16 matches are to be played in the USA, while the remaining 39 will be played in the West Indies.

“Our aim is to produce pitches that have pace and consistent bounce, on which the players can play their shots,” said Adelaide Oval pitch curator Damian Hough, who has been tasked with growing pitches in Australia and transporting them to the US.
Tournament Heading
The report further suggests that the work for the 10 drop-in pitches started in October 2023, that were initially planted in trays. In those, a clay-like soil was used, that is somewhat similar to the ones used in baseball. Then the pitches, once done, were shipped from Adelaide in January. The pitches have grown in warm climate.
What Do Curator Hough Feels About Pitches?
“I have mixed feelings,” said Hough. “I’m really excited, but I’m a bit anxious at the same time – there are still unknowns. This is a long process. What we do know is we’ve given it our best shot.
“We’ve thoroughly thought through every possible outcome and issue along the way and we’re hoping that they’re going to be some good cricket pitches.”
All Eyes on IND vs PAK Clash
Now, USA is also set to host the biggest ever cricket match on their soil — the India vs Pakistan clash on June 9 in Florida. While the ground is yet to be fully prepared, it is believed that the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium will be ready in time for the fiery contest between the arch-rivals. As per the latest updates, the work on the outfield is still being done.
