Sanju Samson, much like any other kid, was presented with the choice between becoming an IPS officer or a cricket player. He chose to pursue a career as a cricket player, a decision that seems to have proven good for him. However, his journey didn’t begin as smoothly as it appears now. Initially, Samson also wanted to be an IPS officer and was inclined towards clearing UPSC examinations. But his aspirations changed when he failed to make it into the Delhi U-13 team.
Speaking about his journey on Breakfast with Champions, after facing rejection, his father took voluntary retirement from the Delhi Police force and moved to Kerala. Where both Sanju Samson and his brother continued their cricketing careers. Due to his parents’ best efforts, he gradually started taking cricket seriously. That’s how, despite dreaming of becoming a civil servant one day, he turned out to be a successful cricketer.

In 160 IPL matches to date, he has scored 4202 runs, including 3 centuries and 23 fifties. He has also been captaining the RR side since 2021 and has been performing impressively for them.
