Under fire Hardik Pandya must shine in IPL for T20 World Cup spot

Pressure mounts! Hardik Pandya seeks redemption, ready to shine in IPL 2024 as ICC T20 World Cup fast approaches,

IPL 2024 hasn’t gone according to what Hardik Pandya planned for. Be it with the bat, ball or captaincy, Hardik Pandya is currently under fire for his poor performances. But the ace all-rounder needs to make amends to be in the race for the ICC T20 World Cup even though he is India’s vice-captain for the mega event.

Ever since returning to Mumbai Indians as the new captain, things haven’t been right for Hardik Pandya. He faced major backlash from fans and supporters who continued to voice for Rohit Sharma. Mumbai Indians’ performances too haven’t been kind for Pandya.

MI are placed 7th in the IPL Points Table with just 3 wins from 8 matches so far. Pandya’s performances in IPL 2024 too haven’t been well. He managed to score just 151 runs in 8 games. As for bowling, he has leaked 186 runs in 17 overs. Adding more concern, Pandya didn’t bowl in 2 matches, much to the dismay of the selectors.

Next Target – ICC T20 World Cup

For Team India, the next target is the ICC T20 World Cup. India’s ICC jinx continues, having won the last trophy in 2013. India came close, but lost the ODI World Cup 2023 final to Australia at home. As a result, the Men in Blue will be desperate to perform well and lift the trophy in the T20 World Cup.

Now, Hardik Pandya is a vital cog in India’s setup. Not only as an able finisher, he also provides an extra pace option. This is important given that India faces a lack of options in the pace unit. Jasprit Bumrah is the only senior bowler available. Mohammed Shami is injured while Siraj’s poor form continues.
