CSK vs LSG: Stoinis ton takes Lucknow over the line

CSK vs LSG: Stoinis ton takes Lucknow over the line

Both sides are neck and neck with four wins (8 points) from the 7 matches they have placed and are placed 4th and 5th on the points table with the Net Run Rate, the only thing differentiating them.

Despite scoring 210 in the first innings, Chennai Super Kings lost the match by six wickets, in Chepauk on Tuesday. That was largely due to the efforts of Marcus Stoinis, who scored 124 from 63 to take his team over the line.

CSK vs LSG Live Updates, Match 39: A deja vu clash! The Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants are set to meet each other for the second time in four days. This time around, Ruturaj Gaikwad & co. are the hosts, but they’ll be looking to give LSG a not-so-warm welcome. After being handed a resounding 8-wicket defeat at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, CSK will be hoping to exact revenge to continue being in the Top 4 on the IPL 2024 Points Table.

Who won yesterday’s IPL match?

Despite Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 56-ball ton, Chennai Super Kings fell short on the day. They scored 210 in their stipulated 20 overs, but the quick innings from Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis’ ton ensured that LSG sailed home with three balls to spare.

Debutant Henry

It is time for debutant Matt Henry to start the proceedings for LSG. He starts off well here. Oh what’s happened here, Henry has a wicket. Rahane edges and is caught brilliantly by Rahul. It is 4/1.

Dropped

Yash Thakur drops a difficult one at gully. Mitchell survives a scare, but Chennai punish LSG for the lapse. After 2 overs, the score moves to 20/1.

Bishnoi now

And inside the powerplay, Bishnoi has been introduced. One wonders why was Mohsin Khan removed? CSK 37/1 after 4 overs.

OUT

After being dropped once, Mitchell is caught by Deepak Hooda. Guess, who was the bowler? It was Yash Thakur, as CSK 49/2.

Revisit the catch

CSK 63/2 in 7.5 overs.

50 for Ruturaj

There you go. CSK skipper Ruturaj has yet another fifty in the IPL 2024. He has been batting so well. The score moves to 74/2 in 9 overs.

CSK going well

Jadeja has been slow but Ruturaj has made up for the slow strike rate from the other end. The score now moves to 93/2 in 11 overs.

Out

Finally Jadeja’s struggle has come to an end. He played 16 balls for his 19 as CSK are 102/3.

Look who’s here

CSK 135/3 after 15 overs

3 overs left

Well now, now. 3 overs to go, fans want to see Thala Dhoni in action. And Ruturaj is close to his 100. A lot to look forward to. CSK 163/3 in 17 overs.

100!

Rutu has his first ton of the season, and what a magnificent innings this has been. A six and a four, and there you go. Hundred in 56 balls.

50

Right after Gaikwad scores ton, it is Dube’s turn to slam a quickfire 50. What an innings. CSK 195/3 in 19 overs.

210

CSK finally end the innings at 210/4 with Rutu remaining unbeaten at 108 from 60 deliveries only. Thala Dhoni smashes a four on the last ball as Chennai fans get their money’s worth.

Out

Deepak Chahar has struck in the first over itself. Quinton de Kock is out for a duck. It is 0/1.

Rahul is key

Three overs are done, and KL Rahul has started slowly. He needs to pick up pace here. Meanwhile, Stoinis gets two fours. CSK 21/1 after 3 overs.

Rahul gone

After a slowish 14-ball 16, skipper Rahul departs. Not the best innings from him in the context of the match. Mustafizur has the wicket. It is 33/2 in 4.4 overs.

Poor from Rahul

LSG 51/2 after 7 overs

Stoinis starting to cut loose

Stoinis has scored 49 here as he slams a four and a towering six in Moeen Ali over here. A great innings from the Aussie. He needs to stay there till the end. It is 78/2 in 9 overs.

LSG fight back

LSG 88/2 in 10.4 overs

Padikkal out

A jaffa from Pathirana and Padikkal has no clue in the world. He is castled for 13 off 19. LSG 88/3 in 11 overs.

Stoinis fights alone

Stoinis is still going at a raid pace. He has 76 from 40 now, while Nicky P is struggling. It is 114/3 after 13 overs.

All but over?

With 87 needed from 36 the match looks all but over for LSG. But the saving grace is Stoinis, who has scored 79 from 44.

Pooran fights

Nicky P is going berserk here. He smashes 20 runs in Shardul Thakur’s over. So there we go, LSG need 54 from 24. It is 157/3 in 16 overs.

Out

And just when it was starting to go in LSG’s favour, Pooran skies one and is caught brilliantly by Shardul. He is out for 34 from 15. It is 164/4 in 17 overs.

100 for Stoinis

There you go. Stoinis has a ton in 56 balls. Same as Ruturaj. That is some coincidence here. It is 183/4 in 18.1 overs.

All over

Stoinis does it in style. He goes 6,4,4,4, to take his side to a famous win here. What an excellent knock here from the Aussie, as LSG win six wickets and three balls to spare.
