In a recent update (v29.30), Fortnite is giving players more control over their social interactions within the game. A new setting called “See Confrontational Emotes” allows players to choose whether or not they see specific emotes that can sometimes be used to taunt opponents. Check out the currently applied emotes as part of new Fortnite See Confrontational Emotes setting.
Fortnite “See Confrontational Emotes” Setting
This setting applies to four emotes:
- Laugh It Up
- Take the L
- Whipcrack
- Make It Plantain
Players who choose to filter these emotes will see the player using the emote simply standing still, without any sound effects. This way, players can avoid feeling targeted or frustrated by potentially toxic gestures.

The “See Confrontational Emotes” setting is located under “Social Privacy” in the game’s settings menu. By default, it’s set to only show these emotes from players you’re partied up with. However, you can easily adjust this setting to completely hide them from everyone or choose to see them from all players regardless.
It’s important to note that this update doesn’t prevent players from using these emotes altogether. It simply gives you the option to control how you experience them in the game. This provides a more customized and potentially less frustrating social environment for players who prefer a more positive online experience.
