DRS, April 23: Jaisball unleashed again, ‘Sand’ storm in Jaipur and one bowler’s night out

Welcome to our special segment DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top stories of IPL from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life

When there’s a T20 World Cup around the corner and you have had a poor run in IPL 2024 so far, you ought to pull you socks up sooner or later. That is exactly what young Yashasvi Jaiswal did. The southpaw announced himself to the current edition of the IPL with a blazing century against Mumbai Indians at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. It was his second IPL century, two in two years, to be precise.

Well, it wasn’t just a batter’s night on Monday. The bowlers had a fair share of fun as well. First, Sandeep Sharma returned to action and went straight to wreaking havoc on MI’s batting order. Chahal topped it up with a historic milestone that could only make every bowler who has bowled in the IPL so far beam with pride. Let’s a look at some of the top headlines that grabbed eyeballs and made people jump out of their seats on Monday.

Jaiswal’s finally here

After a string of underwhelming performances, Yashasvi Jaiswal roared back to form with a spectacular century, guiding RR to a convincing win over MI. Jaiswal, who had been struggling for form in the ongoing IPL season, exploded for a match-winning 104* runs off just 60 balls. His knock was laced with nine boundaries and seven towering sixes, a display of power-hitting that left the MI bowlers hapless.

Five-star Sandeep Sharma

Returning from a five-game absence, Sandeep Sharma produced a match-winning spell. He took five wickets for 18 runs, registering the best bowling figures of IPL 2024. The experienced pacer, returning after missing his side’s last five games, announced his presence with a bang.

Chahal spins his way into history!

Yuzvendra Chahal etched his name even deeper into IPL folklore on Monday, becoming the first-ever player to reach the coveted milestone of 200 wickets in the tournament’s history. The wily leg-spinner achieved the feat during the match between RR and MI.

DC suffer Marsh blow

DC suffered a huge blow as Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2024. The cricketer – who returned to Australia earlier this month – has been ruled out of the tournament owing to a hamstring injury.

Mayank vs Thala on?

Mayank Yadav is training as he prepares to make his comeback in IPL 2024. The youngster, who grabbed eyeballs with his fiery 150+ kmph deliveries, missed the last few matches after suffering a side strain. LSG bowling coach Morne Morkel provided an update on Yadav’s return and confirmed that the team will aim to bring the player in from the next game onwards.

Adding fuel to the fire for Virat Kohli

Virat Kolhi has been fined 50% of his match fees. The batter has been penalized for breaching the Code of Conduct during KKR vs RCB match on Sunday at the Eden Gardens. Kohli was seen arguing with the umpires over his dismissal and was also seen knocking down a dustbin as he reached the team dugout after the controversial DRS call.
